A pet must be flagged as being controlled by you in order to receive any fame/karma or looting rights for whatever it kills. An aggressive command such as kill/attack or guard will set you as controller for approximately 2 minutes. If you wish to continue to receive fame/karma or looting rights, then you need to reset that controller flag with those commands.
