
The Guaranteed Gain System (GGS) replaces the old "burst hour" system. You gain normally by successfully using a skill in a relatively challenging manner. Failures will no longer yield any skill gains. However, if you haven't gained within a certain amount of time, the GGS system will "force" a .1 of skill gain upon your next successful use of that skill.

Any time you gain in a skill, it resets the GGS timer. For some skills, such as anatomy or melee skills, it would be faster to not rely on GGS. GGS is not like ROT, where you must wait a certain amount of time before you can gain again. Instead, it only kicks in if you haven't gained within the alloted time for your skill level.
Let's say you have 80.0 taming and fall into the 350 total skill point bracket. You tame a great hart and did not gain any skill. If it has been 3 hours since your last gain in taming, then your skill will be pushed up to 80.1 a short time later, after taming another great hart (or other relatively challenging creature; a dog or hind would not be challenging for a tamer at 80.0 skill).
You can only gain 1 stat point per half hour, with a maximum of 6 stat points per day.
