Quick Navigation

When a tamer gains the trust of a beloved pet, it is possible for them to form a bond with that particular pet. Once bonded, the tamer will receive special bonuses for that pet.

The Process

To bond with the pet, they must have been under the care of the tamer for 1 full week. Feeding a pet for the first time will start the 1 week timer (feeding it afterwards will not reset the timer). Anyone can bond with any creature, as long as they can tame it. The exception to this is for creatures with no orneriness, and anyone of any skill may bond with them. Bonding occurs after simply feeding a pet one week after the initial feeding, and you will receive a notification of the event.

The Advantages

Bonded pets are very special. Instead of wearing the (tame) tag like most pets, they wear a (bonded) tag. Only bonded pets can obey the "drop" command to retrieve its normal loot. Bonded pets can recall with their owners as long as it can still see you, making the gate spell an unnecessary requirement for traveling. The bond can only be broken if the pet goes wild, is released, or is transferred. Bonded pets can also be "summoned" if they've become separated from their owners as well as turn into a ghost when it dies.

Please note that monsters that have the ability to make tamed creatures go wild can still do so, even if the pet is bonded.

Summoning

Only a bonded pet may be "summoned" with a crystal ball of pet summoning. You simply "link" your pet to the crystal ball and you can summon it from anywhere, even the stables. Once the crystal is linked, you have the option to unlink, summon, or update the pet's name. You will not be able to summon the pet if you do not have the appropriate number of control slots available. If the pet is available to summon, it will be summoned right to you. Players can only link to pets they own, and will not be able to summon a pet they do not own if they aquire someone else's crystal. The crystal balls can be recharged with powder of translocation aquired from the Solens.

Resurrection

When a bonded pet dies, and only bonded pets, they will turn into a ghost. A pet ghost can still follow commands, but naturally will not be able to attack. A pet ghost will still recall with you. Pet ghosts will not dissipate or go wild, nor can they be stabled, animal lored, or transfered (but friends can be added). Corpses of bonded pets yield no resources and have no loot on them. Bonded pets also do not give fame or karma when killed.

Pet ghosts can only be resurrected by players who have a minimum of 80.1 veterinary and 80.1 animal lore, similar to the requirements for healing and anatomy for player resurrection. When a pet is resurrected by a friend of the pet or the pet's owner, they will incur skill-loss, not stat loss, and will have to do more training to bring them back up to their previous levels. The closer the pet is to gm the pet is in a particular skill, the less skill loss it will receive in that skill. For anyone else to resurrect the pet, friends and owners of the pet will receive a gump with the name of the deceased pet, telling them that someone else is trying to resurrect the pet and offers the option to allow it. For strangers to the pet to resurrect, the pet will receive a lose double the amount of skill of a normal resurrection.

You can see how much skill loss a pet will receive with the resurrection calculator.
