There are several messages pets will give you. So what do they look like and what do they do?
If you view your journal, you will notice 2 messages: the old one and this one. Since there is so much text, you only see the last message. At any rate, the creature's current loyalty is 0.
When you attempt to tame any creature you have tamed previously or the creature's minimum skill difficulty is considerably lower than your current skill level, your journal will inform you that the creature was no challenge. Hopefully, you aren't trying to use these types of creatures for skill gain.
The animal has been distracted, and you cannot continue taming
This happens when the creatures moves out of line of sight (LOS), such as around the corner of a house or behind a hill in the terrain. Simply move back into LOS and retame, as there is no skill delay penalty.
You do not have a clear path to the animal you are taming, and must cease your attempt.
This message informs you that something is blocking the path to the creature you are attempting to tame, such as a wall or ledge. This message will also appear at times due to uneven terrain.
This animal has had too many owners and is too upset for you to tame
This message is given by creatures who have had too many owners or if it has had 2 prior owners and you lack the skill to tame it a 3rd time.
The animal is too angry to continue taming
You receive this message whenever you attempt to tame a creature while it is receiving damage (normal, poison, or paralyzation). Stop the creature from taking damage and attempt to tame again, there is no skill delay penalty.
This message is given when you attempt to tame certain creatures (most commonly on dragonkin). In your attempt to tame these creatures, you will anger them approximately 14 out of 15 times before you will successfully initiate an actual taming attempt.
[Petname] remained in the stables because you have too many followers
If you try to claim pets that you do not have control slots available for, the stable hand will inform that your pet(s) must remain in the stables.
You have too many followers to tame that creature
If you are attempting to tame a creature that will cause you to use more control slots than you have available, you will receive this message.
Your pet refuses to follow that person
This is basically a failed follow command that only appears when you use the command in combination with a target cursor.
This message informs you that your pet is now guarding you.
This message is given by your pet when something walks towards you while guarded. While on a mount that is guarding you, you will receive a system message that it is annoyed as well.
Once you have kept your pet for a week, you will have a chance to bond with it simply by feeding it.
You cannot tame player creature
You will receive this message if you are a female attempting to tame a ki-rin, or a male attempting to tame a unicorn.
You cannot tame player creature while polymorphed
You will receive this message while polymorphed and attempting to tame either a unicorn or a ki-rin.
Your mount senses you are in danger and aids you with magic
You receive this message only while riding unicorns. Once you drop to 40 health and are poisoned, the unicorn will cure you. The uni will do this if you drop below 40 hp and then get poisoned or if you get poisoned and fall below 40 hp. There is a one hour delay in the use of this ability.
Your mount calls down the forces of nature on your opponent
You receive this message only while riding ki-rins. Once you drop to 30 health, the ki-rin will rain lightning bolts on your opponent. This does 30-100 damage to whatever is attacking you and cannot be resisted. There is a one hour delay in the use of this ability.
Only pack animals will give this message. It is most likely to appear when snooped by a negative karma player.
The spirits of the dead are not the province of animal lore.
You get this by trying to animal lore a pet who has turned into a ghost.
You must subdue this creature before you can tame it!
This message is received while attempting to tame the tameable variety of giant beetles. If you wish to tame the beetle, you must drop it down to critical health first. If the creature regenerates back above 10% health before a taming attempt is made, you will receive this message again.
The creature has been beaten into subjugation!
This message is received once a creature that requires subduing has dropped below 10% health. Once this message is received, the creature can be tamed.
