Mounts

There are several different ridables currently available for your selection. War horses are restricted to faction members. There are several other mounts available for anyone, with nightmares, fire steeds, ki-rins, unicorns, and frenzieds that require taming and animal lore to accept as a transfer. Horses are by far the most common and most popular, with nightmares close behind. For most players, a horse is more than adequate as a mount. However, there are those who wish to ride with a bit more style and choose a colorful forest ostard or cute ridable llama. Or maybe a mount with special abilities is preferred, such as a swamp dragon's damage absorbing abilities or the giant beetle's pack ability.

No one mount is faster than any other. Walking speeds while following are different, but once mounted, you are no faster riding a frenzied ostard than you are riding a ridable llama. The only thing that really separates mounts while mounted is their stamina. A mount with high stamina will be able to run at top speed for longer distances than those with low stamina. Even among species, there can be a huge range of stamina.

A favorite wimpy horse can be trained up by allowing them to spar against tabbed out players or lesser creatures. Anything remotely challenging can help increase their stats. Start off relatively easy to test your pet. For horses or llamas, start off with sheep, goats, cows, etc. Then, slowly work your way up to hinds, timber wolves, and brown or black bears.

If you wish to keep a pet faithful, you should observe proper feeding rituals. Use animal lore if you have it. Always keep your pet's loyalty above "extremely unhappy". If you don't have animal lore, feeding every 4-5 hours should be plenty, unless you command it and fail. Pet loyalty will drop approximately one level per hour as long as its owner is within line of sight (be careful, even hills in T2A can break it!). One piece of food will raise your mount's loyalty to wonderfully happy (max loyalty).

When you run your mount, they get tired much more quickly, as it depletes their stamina. To replenish it, you will need to either feed it or let it have a rest. It is best if you feed your mount one piece of food at a time, as giving them a stack will restore the same amount as just one piece. Your mount will become "very fatigued" at 8% of it's endurance. To restore their stamina, you will need to feed it a stack of food. The more you give the pet at a single time, the more stamina the mount will have restored (exact formula is with the feeding chart).

While attempting to mount a pet that is fighting, it does a control check at a 25% penalty. If you have 99% control of a nightmare, you will have a 74% chance of successfully mounting it. If you fail the check, you will be informed that the pet is too busy fighting and the pet will not lose loyalty. It may just be easier to issue a "stop" command to the fighting pet so that you can get on it.
